Guest Speaker: Michael Shields was introduced by Ross; owner/operator of Accent Associates Hearing Aid Service Ltd.; 10% of any population has a hearing problem; how do we hear - skin of inside of ear is only affected by change in air pressure and sound waves - the ear system is very sensitive thus ear aches can be very painful;
Most people think vison/sight is the most important sense - but if blind you can still relate to the general public and function in society = if deaf; sign language is a different way of communicating/deaf people do not function well in society - keep to themselves and other deaf people
We expect all our senses to stay with us for all of our life; then, when we may lose one we have unexpected reactions. Hearing - a) can alert us to something wrong (survival); b) we can communicate with others; c) hearing assists with spiritual growth. With a focus on hearing - music is a pleasure. Hearing loss can be intensified by power tools and lawnmowers. Any loud amplified sound should be prevented from reaching the ears. Hearing is not necessarily age related but high doses of medicaine or sound can prematurely create hearing loss; heredity factors impact as well.
Michael was thanked by John
50/50: Jean Lauzon and Ralph did not match cards; $225 over to next week
Finemaster: Ralph fined Jess Morril for sponsoring Jim Spalding into Rotary; then $1 each if not going to Rexall Indy, you played any golf in last week, used any hearing aid battery inappropriately, wore jeans to the meeting, did not wear Rotary pin (happy bucks were not recorded except that CleanScene had a good week for donations).
