Guest Speaker: in spite of technical difficulties, Brian Thompson gave a slide show presentation of his involvement with the construction of the Epcor Tower, first new tower since 1990 in Edmonton; located on 101 Street N W just northwest of CN Tower; Brian is overseeing service supply for sanitary and storm sewers, water services, stormwater management, roadway access and other related facilities; completion expected 2011; owner & developer is Qualico; Epcor will occupy floors 16 - 28; Government of Canada will occupy 7 floors; Ledcor is the construction manager; the tower parkade is above the tunnel for the LRT line from Churchill Station to NAIT; parkade is to be 4 levels; tower will rise above a 2 level shopping complex that will ultimately run from 101 Street to 97 Street; 3 other towers are expected to be built as part of the project; the raft slab for the parkade is 16 meters below street level and took 3800 cubic meters of concrete in a continuous pour which lasted close to 24 hours (longest in Edmonton's history)
