INTRODUCTION OF NEW MEMBERS
The following has been prepared by the 2010 Rotary Club of Edmonton West Membership Committee.
Why do we need new members and why is it the responsibility of all members to seek qualified and suitable persons to join our Rotary Club?
We invite you to look around the club and realize that as the club gets older so do club members who have been the 'worker bees and backbone' of the club for many years.
The fact of life is that we have an increasing number of people in the 70 plus group and that means necessary urgent and effective action by all members. WE JUST DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE WILLING AND CAPABLE TO CARRY OUT THE WORK OF THE CLUB.
****We must introduce new members and renew the workers, fundraisers and persons to fill the positions of responsibility. Our club will have increasing difficulty in continuing the excellent work for which we have been known for over the past 55 years.
Process to introduce qualified, community minded and suitable people that we know. LET'S BE PROUD AND SHARE ROTARY - REMEMBER SOMEONE INVITED YOU!!!
· Talk to them about Rotary International, our club and the work we do and why we are proud of our achievements.
· Ask them if they are interested in attending a club meeting and extend them an invitation (membership will provide you with invitation cards).
· For the first meeting the invitation will entitle the guest to a free lunch and there will be no cost to you the member.
· Introduce the guest to the President, the Membership chair and other members, make them feel welcome and at home.
· The Membership chair will likely sit with the guest and answer questions and meet with the guest after the meeting or arrange to meet them again and if they are interested invite them to attend again.
· You should ask the interested person to provide a short biography AND ---
· If they are seriously interested in our club, you the Nominee will complete the Membership Nomination card and pass to the Membership chair.
· At no time should the potential member be introduced as a possible new member until the following has been completed ---
· The Membership chair will pass the name of the potential member to the Editor of the Westerner who will publish this in one edition, to make sure that non of our members have any objections to their membership.
· If there have been NO OBJECTIONS to this point made known to the Membership chair they will then process the nomination to the President and Board members (this can be circulated by e.mail with the biography) and again if there are no objections to the contrary by the Board, they will meet and Approve.
· At that point the potential member can be advised officially that they have been nominated and approve for membership, they will then be asked to complete an Application form which will then be passed to the Secretary who will then with the Membership chair and President arrange the Induction.
· One of the most important points through this whole process should be the emphasis on the fact that THEY ARE COMMITTING THEMSELVES TO SERVICE AS ROTARY INTERNATIONAL AND OUR CLUB IS NOT A FRATERNAL OR NETWORKING CLUB and they will be expected to do their share, but through all of this we have fun!!
Note to all members:
Please think about this aspect of your own commitment to keeping the club VIABLE, ACTIVE AND PROGRESSIVE
Your Board's commitment this Rotary year 2010/11 is to increase membership to 65, we believe this can be done!! WE HOPE YOU DO!!
