What have we been up to?
IVANO-FRANKIVSK, UKRAINE PROJECT
A donation of $8,000 (totalling around 149,000 UAH after the exchange) was made by our club to the Rotary Club of Ivano-Francivsk, who have partnered with the Rotary Club of Ivano-Frankivsk-Stanislaviv to aid in the COVID-19 treatment efforts.
The funds donated by our club will go towards cardiac monitors requested by the Regional Perinatal Center and the City Hospital in Ivano-Francivsk, Ukraine. These monitors are among the most needed / requested equipment in several of the hospitals in Ukraine.
Aside from the cardiac monitors, they have also received urgent requests for upwards of 100 tests to help identify patients infected with COVID-19 before it spreads to others.
The rest of the donation amount will go towards Individual Protection Equipment for medical workers in the hospitals.
We'd like to extend a huge thank you the following club members who directly helped initiate this connection and organize this donation: Zen Moisey (organized this effort), Bert Andrews and Vic Rudowski (worked on the club committee), Vicky Grabb (worked with the bank on getting the transfer done), and Al Sanderson (worked on repurposing our District Grant for this COVID-19 response.

PAUL BARBER, RECIPIENT OF THE GEORGE GROVER SCHOLARSHIP
Paul Barber, last year's recipient of the club's George Grover Scholarship, was recently recognized in the U of A's online publication Folio for playing a "key role in COVID-19 hospital surge planning."
He was recognized as " one of 10 U of A medical students helping Alberta Health Services prepare for a potential surge of COVID-19 patients in Edmonton hospitals," and the article states that these students may have saved AHS workers "months of work."
"'Observing some of the decisions that have to be made and how people are making those decisions ... is so valuable for those of us hoping to be future leaders,' he said."
