Zen Moisey reported to the Club on Monday, June 5th, that a project which was initiated by the efforts of members of our Club some four years ago has recently been completed.  It came about as a result of discussions with members of a Group Study Exchange Team from Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi.

560 brand new wheelchairs have recently been delivered to the Rotary Club of Luanshya, Zambia for distribution to needy people.  These aren't just ordinary wheelchairs, they are rough terrain wheel chairs which are suitable for undeveloped areas which have no facilities for complicated repairs, and no streets or roads on which to travel.

Funding for the project came from District 5370 Rotarians and grants from the Wild Rose Foundation, the Rotary Foundation and the Wheelchair Foundation.  Sandi Griston of the Whitecourt Rotary Club has been working hard at this project for four years to raise funds and arrange for the matching grants.

The Rotary Club of Luanshya receives requests for chairs, prioritizes the requests, assembles and delivers the chairs to those who are most in need of them.

This is just another example of the good things that Rotarians make happen for those who really need something good to happen in their lives.
