Membership: Darrel Ripley asked all to talk up Rotary with their acquaintances - tell your story - connect with friends/community weekly - invite them to Rotary lunch.
CleanScene: Mike Ryan thanked the club for this year's donation
ChangeMaker Award: President Rob announced that Rotary International sent our club this award - certificate signed by Rotary International President Kalyan Bannerjee and Rotary District 5370 Governor Harry Buddle.
50/50: Don and Bert did not match cards - $34.50 carried over
Finemaster: Chris fined those not at the Grandview concert and those not wearing Rotary pins.
Guest Speakers: John introduced Jeff Polovick (Past President of Rotary Club of Edmonton Mayfield) and Jim Greenough (Past President of Rotary Club of Edmonton) to give an update of the Rotary Club of Edmonton West's continuation of involvement in the Windsor Block Project at Rotary's Fort Edmonton. Our club has been involved to some extent with Fort Edmonton since the start of the original construction back in 1970. Jeff is on the board of Fort Edmonton Management Co. which operates Fort Edmonton. Both Jim and Jeff are heavily involved in volunteerism in Edmonton.
Thanks to our club's donations both personal from members and corporately from the club {total about $60,000} the project is on track to begin construction and be completed for celebration of Rotary in Edmonton for 100 years in 2016. The first post of the Hudson's Bay Co. was established in 1775 in Edmonton area and the last structure was demolished in 1914 when it was no longer functional. Besides the harvest fair, Rotary has been involved with the restoration of the Selkirk Hotel (originally the Windsor Hotel) and the Capital Theatre on 1920 Street. The Windsor Block will be recreated between these 2 and will give a larger area for business and personal banquet events. Possibly the Rotary District 5370 office will move to the site. All the new projects are significant [$5 million, not including first nations pavillion], visual {Rotary Emblem to be displayed} and a legacy [we can see the great work of Rotary].
Jim and Jeff were thanked by Darrel Ripley.
