Dr. Paul Major,
Associate Dean, University of Alberta
The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry

Dr. Major was introduced by Joe Lizotte.

Dr. Major noticed how close the School of Dentisty's mission was to that of our Rotary clubs.  The mission of the school is: "Improving health of the people of Alberta and beyond through excellence and leadership in oral health care, education, research/scholarship and providing service that is responsive to social need"

The U of A Dentistry School will be celebrating it's 100th anniversary in 2017.  In 2015 they had 357 applications for Doctors of Dental Surgery and 186 for Dental Hygene.  They graduate only 32 DDS and 42 hygenists in a given year.

He gave a brief history of the actual dental school beginning in the old health sciences building and ending in the multiple high tech buildings that they currently occupy.

Dentistry has an overall economic impact of about 40.4 million dollars in the Province with approximately 42% of graduates staying within the provice to practice.

Dr. major explained all the community outreach programs that the school has developed such as the Glenrose Dental Clinic, Long care term mobile clinics, Shine clinics for inner city students, satellite clinics throughout Northern Alberta and volunteer international projects.

Paul was thanked for his presentation by Doug MacDougal.
