Attendance/Guests: 33 including Megan Paterson, daughter of Alex; John and Donna Nicoll, both of Rotary Club of Edmonton Avenue of Nations.
BBQ: due to rain damage on roadway to Mike & Shauna's, the BBQ has been rescheduled to August 21, cocktails @ 4:00 pm; dinner @ 6:00 pm, bring your own refreshments, meat to BBQ and lawn chairs
50/50: Dan Graham & Dave did not match cards, $37 carried over
Club Fun Golf: August 16 @ Victoria Golf Course, 1:30 pm tee times; 6:00 pm dinner, come to dinner even if you do not golf
Finemaster: John fined $1 each for the following: if you attended the Indy; Zen for starting dessert before main course; if you own a big, black Cadillac with white across one side; if you did not wear your Rotary pin or if you were late in arriving for the meeting
Members & Directors' Musings: Zen updated Guatemalan micro banks - started 10 years ago; never a default till now, severe storm ravaged the 2 villages and wiped out the complete crop - Juan Forster, the local Rotarian that administers the loans, tried to raise $1,500 from local Rotarians to provide fertilizer but failed, he then lent the women the money himself - payment of this year's interest and principal has been defered to after the next crop is harvested without penalty; Chris is arranging for another 2 micro banks to be funded in Guatemala from our casino funds
Bert, the new sargeant at arms, says finemasters will be given ample prior notice of dates to perform and Bert will confirm on the Friday prior to that meeting date; Happy Bucks will be welcome
Chris, membership director, we need more members as a large number of the current members are over age 60; be proud to be a Rotarian, talk to potential members about the club and your experiences; senior members will mentor the new ones
Al Sanderson - re GSE (Group Study Exchange) - many young engineers in Environment Alberta - he canvassed interest in the program - got good response - expects to be applying to our club and Rotary District 5370 to have one of those people attend to Australia
Alex, youth services director, planning to participate in Rotary Youth Exchange for 2011, billets for incoming exchange student are required - advise Alex of your interest in hosting an international student probably for 3 months.
Dues - payment is due - if you did not get your invoice, contact Laurie - Lily can accept the cheques as well as Laurie - please pay soon
Budget - not passed at last meeting - there will not be a deficite - the directors are close to approving now that they have received further information about balances in all bank account.
Banking has been transfered to Servus Credit Union - expect the local branch manager, Kasey Armstrong, plus one other bank employee to join our club in the fall - Servus' head office has been moved to Edmonton Research Park
Rotaract are holding a symposium in Edmonton August 23 - they expect a large number of attendees - our club expects to help fund the event
