On Wednesday, July 8, 2009, approximately 100 Rotarians and other friends of Alan MacLean gathered to pay tribute to Past District Governor Alan MacLean.  This gathering happened at the Faculty Club, and thanks to Jerome Martin and PDG Julius Buski for organizing this special evening.

Julius Buski acted as the Master of Ceromonies and the speakers included:

  • Assistant Governor David Winfield
  • PDG Cec Blackburn
  • PDG Ed Willson
  • PDG Elly Contreras-Vermeulen
  • PDG Frank Totino
  • PDG Ross Tyson
  • PDG Ken Haverland
  • Scott Montgomery
  • Chris Gowers
  • Grace Young

Alan responded graciously to the friendly abuse and heartfelt admiration expressed by those above, and in doing so, exhibited many of the characteristics that distinguished him as a great leader of Rotary in Alberta and beyond.  The Rotary International Theme in 1990-91, Alan's year, was Honour Rotary with Faith and Enthusiasm.  We can't think of any other Rotarian who better lives those words.  Congratulations Alan

Alan was accompanied by his daughter Catherine, who came in from Redmond, Washington.  The gathering concluded with some appropriate words from Jerome Martin and the singing of Auld Lang Syne, accompanied by Ross Tyson on the guitar.  The photo shows the gathering of Past District Governors who attended the roast.
