May 16, 2022 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
Please register today for our Club luncheon meeting to be held at the University Club on May 16, 2022 at 12 noon. Rotarian Rob Dunseith has just returned from a three-week holiday in Ireland and will share his experience of travel in what is hopefully a late stage of the Covid pandemic. His travels took him to all four provinces of Ireland including spending some time in his family’s homeland of Northern Ireland. He and Elizabeth were present during the recent local elections in which the nationalist Sinn Fein party received the largest number of seats in the Northern Ireland Assembly. Rob argues that this represents a significant watershed in the peace process begun with the 1998 Good Friday Agreement, one of the best examples of peace building we have witnessed in the modern era. Our club will have a special guest, Claudia Caluori, from Italy. She is a Rotarian and Rotary Peace Fellow and will share her experiences with us. PARTICIPATION OPTIONS In-person attendance will include lunch for $25 per person, payable in cash or by cheque at the door. Zoom attendance for those unable to attend in-person will be free. Masks are recommended inside the University Club when attendees are not seated for lunch. Those who plan to attend in person are asked to register by Thursday, May 12, 2022. PARKING Parking is available in Lot 5108, accessible off 116 Street, south of Saskatchewan Drive for $5.50 between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM. Remember your license plate number. You can pay for parking at the machines located at the southeast corner of the lot or in the lobby of the University Club or using the Honk Mobile App. Note that fines for illegal parking at the U of A are substantial. A time to celebrate the Rotary year past, the year to come and to enjoy each others company. You are welcome to bring family and friends. FRIENDSHIP PICNIC IN THE PARK Saturday July 23rd @ 4:00 pm Laurier Park ~ Picnic Site #6 13221 Buena Vista Rd NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 2R7
Part of Rotary's mission is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through fellowship. We have a wonderful opportunity, through our connection with the Edmonton Mennonite Newcomers Centre, to meet a group of newcomers to Edmonton and enjoy a picnic together. This will be a family event and I encourage you all to bring your families too! Through our hands-on volunteering we don't often get to connect with the people who use these service organizations. We do vital work, but don't get the chance to sit down and listen to their stories. I am really excited to get that chance! Through this experience we can create a supportive environment that can foster open communication and shared learning. The food will be pot luck and burgers and hot dogs will be provided. More details will be forthcoming when people have signed up. Cheers, Annie

Habitat ReStores are a social enterprise where community members and business and corporate partners donate gently used and new product for them to sell. All proceeds help families gain access to affordable home ownership through Habitat for Humanity. When we volunteer as a ‘group’ there are often special projects to work on. It could involve assembling products for sale, or cleaning up and organizing an outside yard. Sometimes it involves assisting the store with racking, or some other structural component and sometimes the manager will divide a larger group up into teams of two to four and have them focus on different areas of need. It is a Warehouse/Retail environment, the shift tasks vary and groups do report having a great experience. Date: Saturday August 20 |

Hello Campers, Bryan Gouthro has very generously offered to host us at his property 20 mins from the Jasper Park gates. There is room for us all to pitch our tents and will also accomodate Al's trailer:)) There is a fire pit and we can use the washrooms. This is great as we can all be together and not spread out in different campsites. There are lots of hikes to choose from depending on your comfort level....or maybe you just want to go into Jasper for some fudge! Bryan mentioned that he knows of a guide who would lead a hike if we desire. Closer to the time we can all get together and meal plan. This weekend will be a great opportunity for some fellowship and fun. Please sign up if you are interested. Cheers, Annie |
