Edmonton West was there at Gate 13 to catch people as they got off the buses 😊. We helped the Purolator Tackle Hunger event raise the equivalent of 108,270 pounds of food for the Edmonton Food Bank. Then we got to watch the second half of a great game.
The Daytimers volunteered at the Hope Mission last week. Preparing and serving food to 300 people. Well done!!
A great afternoon on the mighty North Saskatchewan River!!
Rotary Moments
By Mike Ryan
Mike talked about Edmonton West making him feel comfortable in so many ways starting with the lack of judgement. He said that events like the e4c Alex Taylor school stairway and other projects along with the fellowship and support when Shauna passed, keeps him feeling that I want to be a member for the rest of my life and live to be a gentle and strong Rotarian like Al Holmes and Bill Arnold and all the other great role models.

Many people do not know Rotary. Those who do, only know our name or only have a general idea of what Rotary is and does. Rotary’s Public Image Surveys in 2006 and 2010 reached a wide cross-section of prospective members around the world. The research found:
• Four in ten have never heard of us.
• Another four in ten have heard of our “name only.”
• Only two in ten claim to have “some familiarity” with Rotary.
Unfortunately, what much of this group knows is often colored by misperceptions and half-truths.
What is Rotary?
How do you explain Rotary? There are so many chapters to the Rotary story that telling it in 4 to 5 sentences is next to impossible.
But people today, especially millennials, are accustomed to receiving information in short, concise bytes.
A short, concise elevator speech provides a place from which to launch into meaningful conversations about Rotary. Crafting an elevator speech will help engage others into your club’s brand experience.
You can also use it for social media profiles, booking speakers, pitching stories to the media, in brochures, approaching funding partners and many other day-to-day Rotary activities.
An elevator speech is meant to provide a starting place for launching into a more in-depth conversation about your Rotary club. The conversation will hopefully lead to a relationship with people you want or need to know.
The next time someone asks you "What is Rotary?", what will your answer be? I will be sending out an email to ask you to think about what you would say. Let's put our thoughts together and come up with a great "Elevator" speech about our club!!
