It is now official!! The Rotary Club of Edmonton West has sponsored it's very own Rotary Community Corp, and we have received the Charter Certificate. I am proud that Rotary International is recognizing our dedicated volunteers who work beside us time after time.
It's hard to believe that this time next week the conference will be over. After much hard work, countless volunteer hours we pretty much have all our ducks in a row.
We are excited about our District Conference ....we have members attending from all over the District including some international registrants ... fabulous speakers .... a few surprises .... YOU want to be there .... all happening soon... come be inspired....join in the action!
Thank you to all those who came out to our work bee early on Saturday morning. All the name tags were assembled and put into envelopes along with the conference booklet.
What have we been up to?
Our Daytimers group have been busy at Capital Care Grandview working on a few projects. They cut down two old gates to widen the path for their tractor mounted snowblower. And installed new rubber baseboards in the men's washroom on the main floor. I particularly love these two pictures below.
Several of our members volunteered at Landsdowne Elementary School and read to students during Edmonton Public School's Read In Week. Thanks to all of you. You will notice that Duane was accompanied by a special guest......He took his dog Jemma, to the delight of the kids.
Thanksgiving at Boyle Street
We had a strong turnout of volunteers to serve Thanksgiving dinner at the Boyle Street Community Services. NAIT culinary students cooked 60 turkeys and all the trimmings, which arrived in large warming ovens.
Before they opened the doors, Julian, the director of the centre thanked us for helping. And Lorne got us all organized. This was the calm before the storm.
Service with a Smile:) We served 1,600 guests from 1 until 4 o'clock. There was a steady stream of people, young and old. Our volunteers served the food, cleared away plates and washed the food containers.
Brent, the program director had received a call from the group that was supposed to supply the dessert. Unfortunately they didn't have anything left to donate. So Jason and Lisa went out and bought enough pumpkin and apple pies to feed everyone. Some of them were still frozen, so Lorne got busy with the microwave! I told Brent that next year, Edmonton West Rotary will provide the dessert and buns.
We were excited to hear what was happening at the 395 Squadron. Ken Brander presented a letter of intent for our annual donation which has increased to $20,000
