Edmonton West News

Last year Spencer initiated an International Grant with the Rotary Club of Highlands Ranch, Colorado to create a library in Costa Rica.
Here are some pictures of the Sue Fox Memorial Library in Northen Costa Rica. The Highlands Ranch club is working on filling the library with books, chairs, fans, and other supplies.  They are grateful for our support of this amazing project.

New Member Inductions

District Governor Ingrid Neitsch visited our club on October 29 and inducted our three newest members. Anthony Odoemena, Aly Khan Jr. Merali and Meena Deccan. We welcome them into our Rotary Family.

Our newly formed Vimy Ridge Interact Club held their first meeting last week, and Spencer was able to attend in place of Ken Brander, our clubs Youth Chair. There were 13 kids in attendance ranging in grades from 8 to 12. These young future Rotarians were full of energy, great ideas and full of desire to do good in our community. They have already completed a couple of local projects and are keen to take on more. We have given them the red volunteer vests that we used at the conference so that they are visible when they are in the Community. This weekend they are serving coffee in a Senior's Lodge. We are also working on getting them a couple of banners to put up in the school.

Walk to End Polio

On Wednesday October 17th Rotary Club of Edmonton organized it's annual End Polio Now Walk in downtown Edmonton. For the first time it was held on a working day instead of a Saturday. The weather was perfect, making the walk even more fun and there were more people out and about to see our banner and shirts.
Spencer, Ingrid and I represented the Rotary Club of Edmonton West to show our support.

District 5370 Conference 2018

What can I say about the Conference except......WOW. It was a resounding success. People are still talking about it. Every detail was carefully and thoughtfully planned which created a seamless event. The quality of the speakers made this a world class event. Thank you to the volunteers from Edmonton West for their 2 year commitment and hours and hours of work behind the scenes and for working tirelessly during the event. Thank you also to MacEwan Rotaractors for volunteering during the conference which made all the difference in the world. You were there when we needed you!!!

Fall Learning 2018

Spencer, Al, Ingrid, Vicky, Meena, Bert and myself attended the Rotary District 5370 Leadership Assembly this past Saturday which was held at the Delta South! We shared our stories, dived deeper into topics that inspired some stimulating and insightful discussions, plus left with more tools for our Rotary toolbox.

Together, we are strong and people of action.

Rotary Moments

I received a Paul Harris 4 pin from DG Ingrid Neitsch at the last meeting. Becoming a Paul Harris Fellow is a tremendous accomplishment and honour as these contributions impact communities around the world. So much good begins with these gifts: wells are constructed, children are vaccinated against illness, senior citizens are afforded meals and services, children and adults are educated and given professional opportunities. This work is vital to the children, families, and communities who benefit. Only when people’s basic needs are met, can they pursue the larger elements of human life including conflict resolution, community building, and peace. Paul Harris Fellows, in a very tangible way, provide stepping stones to a more peaceful world.

Where was Ingrid this month?

Speaker ~ Councillor Ben Henderson

Councillor Henderson gave an indepth presentation about the past, present and future of Waste Management in the City of Edmonton.

Unfortunately his Executive Assistant, via Rob, sent me his notes, but the attachment wasn't attached. When I receive it I will send it out to everyone.
