Presentation on Rotary Foundation by Spencer Mueller

Spencer is the incoming Rotary Foundation chair for the upcoming year - Thanks to Chris Gowers for his hard work in this capacity for the past several years.

The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

The Rotary Foundation helps fund our humanitarian activities, from local service projects to global initiatives. Your club or district can apply for grants from the Foundation to invest in projects and provide scholarships. The Foundation also leads the charge on worldwide Rotary campaigns such as eradicating polio and promoting peace. Rotarians and friends of Rotary support the Foundation’s work through voluntary contributions.

As giving to the foundation is one of our major club goals this year, Spencer has set the following personal goals as Rotary Foundation club chair:

  • To inform and encourange all club members to support the Rotary Foundation by contributing at least $20 per month
  • Obtain a minimum club contribution of $100 per capita
  • Obtain at least 10% of members to particpate in the recurring giving program - "Rotary Direct"
  • To increase benefactors and Paul Harris Fellows in our club.
There are many ways to give to the foundation. please contact Spencer if you want more information on the foundation or ways to give.
Fine Master: Birthday boy Darrel raised a little bit of cash by quizzing the members on the various Rotary conferences (District nad International)as well as the 5 avenues of service within Rotary.  He also fined Bill B. for getting Darrel to be the fine master on his own birthday!

50/50: Cathy Graves-Evans and EdSchultz DID match playing cards and therefore split the pot of $76.50 between the two of them.

Paul Harris Fellow Presentation - Darcy Hilkewisich
Darcy was presented this award by Duane for his passion and caring on the Belize Literacy project and more.  Not only has Darcy participated in the project working with the scholarship students for the past 3 years, but also donated a suitcase of soccer shoes that were collected by his students to give to the students in Belize.  He also worked with his local leadership students to collect funds through to help start up the Placencia Interact club.
Darcy also let us in on plans to take a group of leadership students from his school to Placencia in May of next year to work with the local Rotoract club along with $2400 in seed money to develop locally directed projects.

Presentation: Fred Kraft - The Rotary Internation Conference is Sao Paulo Brazil

Fred was very impressed by the quality and size of the event, but mostly in the fact that there were people from all over the world (more countries than the UN) that all had something in common (Service Above Self).  He got many ideas for projects by speaking to people from all over the world and being in the "House of Friendship"

The plenary sessions were also impressive and the quality of speakers was truly amazing.  Good news was shared by all and the key messages were:
  • Global membership increased by 4% (+ 48000 new Rotarians)
  • Polio likely to be fully eradicated by October
  • Rotary ranked in top 3% of world’s charities
  • Try something different, (no Rotary Police)
  • Less emphasis on attendance and more on engagement
  • Embrace technology in your club
  • New Theme and Logo "Be A Gift To The World"
The incoming President of RI, Ravi Ravindran from Sri Lanka brought forward the follwing citation for the upcoming year:
  • Different from past Presidential Citations
  • Specific instructions for all clubs to follow
  • A total of 21 goals set out in specific activity areas (Membership, Foundation Giving, New Generations, etc)
  • Each Club must set a minimum of 15 goals (we will learn more of these in upcoming meetings)
