Guest Speaker - Graham Statt - the Assistant Deputy Minister of Parks Alberta.

Graham Statt was introduced by Dan Graham

Graham began the talk with Alberta park's vision - "Alberta's parks inspire people to discover, value, protect and enjoy the natural world and the benefits it provides for current and future generations."

He explained that there are approximately 500 sites in Alberta's provincial park system. This network of parks has been built throughout Alberta's starting in 1930. Alberta's Plan for Parks guides our future.  He also announce that Alberta's newest park has just been donated to the province by a farmer around the Hanna area.

The legislation that each park is established under defines its classification and provides direction for its management.

Albertans have a deep connection to the land and Alberta Parks believe that everyone belongs in parks and they are are actively pursuing inclusion and accessibility from visitors and user.  There is always a balance required between keeping areas pristine and providing activities that users want, so it is important that they hear from the public.

Graham concluded the talk by posing some questions to the members on getting ideas on running foundations and other ideas about different management options.  You can also provide input on decisions about parks through upcoming public consultations.

Mr. Statt was thanked on behalf of the club by Brad Arsenault.

The meeting was adjourned by chair Darrel Ripley.
