Presentation:
We attempted to connect to our Belize Partner club to participate (virtually) in the annual gift exchange that we assist with. Unfortunately due to some technical issues, we were unable to connect during the meeting.
Kathy Lake Evans and Wendy Mitchell gave a wonderful update on the status of the Belize literacy project and the future plans for continuing this important project. A slideshow was presented that showed highlights from the summer 2013 visits. Click here to view the photo album.
- The project is really beginning to show successes.
- This year the project expanded from one to three separate locations.
- This year's mission included 3 teachers and 3 young adult teachers.
- Our scholarship students really clicked with the young teachers.
- The focus for this mission is the elementary age students
- We are always looking for travelling and local mentors/tutors for the project due to the expansion and success we have seen so far. Many of the previous years volunteers plan on going again next summer.
- Thank-you to the Edmonton West Rotary Club for all the financial and resource support for this project.
Chris Gowers thanked Kathy and Wendy for the presentation and their hard work on the project. He also congratulated them for the success of the project.
President Duane Evans thanked all for attending, wished everyone a safe and happy holiday and adjourned the meeting.
