attendance 25 including guests: Leslie Cleary, Peter Bradley, Vic Rudkowski and speaker Ross Tyson.

Club Business/Announcements:

Fort Edmonton Movie Night Social: Zen Moisey reported that 13 members and spouses attended the movie night in the Capitol Theatre.  It was a lot of fun and was a lot of fun rehashing old memories of the buildings and businesses.  Zen also reminded everyone about Rotary's (and especially Edmonton West's) role in getting Fort Edmonton started as well as a reminder of the new building project that is underway.  So far Rotary has raised $360,000 towards the project and we are just getting started.

Habitat for Humanity Project:  Our build date is Saturday, November 1.  We have promised that we will have at least 20 volunteers available on that days for the build. All equipment is supplied by Habitat for Humanity.  Duart Berg will have sign up sheets available at upcoming meetings.  Please sign up if you are able.

A Night at the Symphony with Tommy Banks:  Jerome reminded everyone of the upcoming November 11 concert at the Winspear with Tommy Banks and P J Perry.  Please contact Jerome if you are interesting in attending this event as it would be great if we could all sit together and enjoy an evening of great music and friendship.

Upcoming Grandview Concert: Jerome also reminded everyone of the next in the series of Grandview concerts. The Lazy River Quintet will be performing on Tuesday, September 16 from 6:30 to 7:30.

Grocery Cards: Brad reminded everyone that they "eating anyway" so why not buy some gift cards where a percentage of the money comes back to our club.  It is a painless way to raise money doing something that you are already doing anyway.

100 Men YEG: Brad announced a new charitable initiative that he is involved with called 100 Men YEG, where 100 business people get together 4 times a year and donate 100 dollars each that will go to a charitable organization that will compete for that money at the event.  If anyone wants more information or would like to attend, please contact Brad or go to: www.100menyeg.com.

Finemaster:  Al Holmes raised a bucket of money challenging everyone's memory and knowledge of current events.

50/50:  Doug and Dan did not match cards; so the pot of $136 was carried over

Presentation/Speaker:  Brad introduced Ross Tyson who is the current District Rotary Foundation chair and is charge of the grants for the Rotary Foundation, is a member of the International Polio Plus program and an international training leader in Rotary and taught at the International Training Institute in San Diego.  Ross is also the former Assistant Executive Director for the Boys & Girls Club / Big Brothers - Big Sisters.

Ross came to give an overview of the upcoming district conference which will be held on October 2-4 at the Northlands Expo Centre.

Ross began with an excellent video presentation of the conference that was titled "iBelieve in the poser of Rotary"

Ross explained that the conference is being organized by the Rotary club of Edmonton Northeast and the reasons for that.

As mentioned, the conference is being held at the Northland Expo Centre which will allow things to operate a little different than normal with the Rotary House of Friendship being located in the large common area outside of the actual Plenary presentation rooms.  This will allow lots of discussion and friendship between the speakers and allow all to view the good work being done by Rotary.  The House of Friendship will include Rotary Displays, vendors and musicians.

Highlighted speakers include:
- Dennis Edney, Q.C. speaking to The Rule of Law in an Age of Terror
- Dr. Bob Scott - Chair of Rotary's International Polio Plus Committee
- Susan Aglukark - Singer, Songwriter, and speaker
- David Dotson - President of Dollywood Foundation
- Tim Maloney - National Director of Mercy Ships
and
- Craig Kielberger - co- founder of Free the Children and Me to We

There are also many events including the Dragon's Den and a Night at the races

Many thanks to the title sponsor of the conference - "The Driving Force"

Full and partial conference registration can be found at: http://www.conference5370-2014.ca

Ross was thanked by Jerome.
