Report on Eye Exam Trip to Guatemala; Congratulations to Ben Doz for another successful mission #20. Marly and Ben have worked with Dr. Carlos Solarzano for 20 years. The first trip was their honeymoon in 1998. Over the years 60 volunteers have assisted 15,000 cataract and other eye problem patients. Many medications and 2 -3,000 pairs of glasses have been dispensed. There is a good partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Edmonton West and Huehuetenango. The trip involves 1 day each way of flying with problem luggage (not your own and filled with prescription drugs); 1/2 day each way of driving; 5-6 days of eye exams in different villages. This year Marly, Ben, Al and Karen Sanderson, Darryll White, Lorne Proctor, Leslie Mackechin, Joseph Linzen, and Alana Barager (dispensing eye glasses) manned the mission. Then Al Sanderson presented a verbal and visual talk on the mission. Lorne presented a 1 pound package of Guatemalan coffee to Joe Lizotte. Darrel Ripley thanked the speakers. Dr. Carlos Solarzano will be a speaker at the 2019 District Conference. No Meeting next week due to Easter Monday.
