Choral Morphosis
Our speaker will be Donna Pickle, the Treasurer of the Choral Morphosis Arts Society. Donna will inform our members about the programs offered by the Society and our Club can consider whether it is a group our Club could support financially or otherwise.
Here is what Donna tells us about Choral Morphosis:
"The Choral Morphosis program began back in 2007 from the desire of a person living with a disability to be part of a choir. Recognizing that there was a need out there, two friends got together and created a choir that allowed individuals with disabilities to share their love of singing and music. It started with just a few members and has now grown to almost 40 participants and offers 3 different programs. We welcome anyone 16 and older living with a disability.
What makes this program unique compared to other choir programs is that this is a non-auditioned program. That means we welcome all, regardless of whether you sing beautifully or are non-verbal. We are proud that our program includes both, along with all of those in-between. They all share a love of music and the social interaction that this program brings.
The main program is our choral program. The second is the Choral Arts program. This program is for those that want a greater challenge. This is more of a musical theatre style program and last year performed an adapted version of “A Midsummer’s Night Dream”. These 2 programs rehearse every week between September and June (excluding holiday weekends). The third program is the 5 day summer camp. This program is a day camp that offers participants the chance to sing, dance, play music and create art using a variety of mediums. Our program has been invited to perform at several events over the years, including singing O Canada at the opening ceremonies at an Alberta Special Olympics event, singing at events celebrating the International Day for Persons with Disabilities and singing along side various church choirs."
